I returned from serving in the Washington Spokane Mission in Aug. 2008. After settling in and unpacking, I started searching for a job. A few weeks went by and I had still not found employment. My thoughts were turned back to photography -- a hobby I had developed a few years before my mission. Even though money was scarce, I decided to invest in a used camera that I found for sale online. It arrived a few days later, and I was ready to go.
I had always loved taking pictures of the Logan Temple, and knew that this was one of my first stops. Unfortunately, Cache Valley had been experiencing a long gloomy week of wind and rain, with no signs of letting up. I sat patiently waiting for the skies to clear so I could put my new camera to the test. The days passed, and still no blue skies. The beautiful fall colored leaves I wanted to capture were all but gone. I took this opportunity to discuss my plans with the Lord.
On the morning of November 13th, my father and I attended one of the early morning sessions at the Logan Temple. That afternoon I was looking through some of my photos from years past, when suddenly my mind was cleared and an impression came to me that now was the time to photograph the temple. I looked over my shoulder and out the window. Ribbons of water were still running down the glass from the rain, so I went back to my work. A few minutes later I was again prompted to go right then to the Temple. I got up, grabbed my camera bag, hopped in my car, and drove off in the rain. When I arrived I pulled into the northeast parking lot. As I got out of the car something was different. The rain had let up to a light drizzle. I quickly set up my equipment just outside my car, directly across the street from the temple. Just then the rain stopped and the sun hit the temple, just long enough for me to get the pictures that I needed. As soon as I was done, the rain started up again. The resulting photograph was unlike any I had ever seen.
The longer I looked at it, the more symbolism I saw. I knew the hand of the Lord had guided me in capturing such a once-in-a-lifetime sight.
